Intro to Racing Class at Willamette Sailing Club

As an introduction to club racing, this class will start with basic racing skills, starts, the windward leg, mark roundings, reaches, the run, and the rest of it. We will spend most of our time on the skills that you need the most work on. The text for the class is Getting Started in Sailboat Racing, by Cort and Stearns. The book goes into further details that will not be covered in the class such as boat speed, tuning and weather. The book will be available to participants at a discount off the $15.95 cover price.

There will be class room sessions followed by on-the-water “race-night” classes. The class will be taught in your own boat, so you will gain the experience and confidence to sail your boat in a racing environment. New for 2009, you can charter a WSC club 420 to take the class in. Two instructors and volunteers will make one-on-one help available.

Class Schedule

Six class sessions run from 6:30 pm until dusk, Tuesdays and Thursdays, April 21 to May 7, 2009.

Fees

$45 for club members
$95 for non-members (which includes the training membership)
Chartering a WSC Club 420 is $100.
