Lincoln, St Marys Rock at District Champs!

WSC High School sailors from Lincoln High and St Marys Academy placed 4th and 7th respectively at NWISA District Doublehanded Championships at Friday Harbor, WA, April 19-20. Congratulations to Lincoln sailors Aegir Olsen, Madeline Luce, Mike Mayer, and Matt Michaelson, and to Monica Mader, Risa Reichelt, Nicole Carman, and Liza Holtz from St Marys. WSC sailors also shone in the JV Division, finishing third overall thanks to great performances by skippers Greg Moran, Zack Watson, and Sam Weiss, and crews Scott VanBergen, Nathan Thompson, Jeff Carlson, and Moira Lynch (full report, results, photos).

WSC Regatta Hosts 80 High Schoolers!

More than 80 high school sailors, parents, coaches, and spectators descended on WSC April 12 for our 2008 high school regatta. The crowd nearly put the WSC docks underwater, while 80 degree sunshine sent most of the kids splashing into the river. At the end of the day, North Kitsap teams captured the top two spots in the 420 fleet, while Bainbridge Island #3 came out on top of the FJs. Thanks once again to our terrific parent support team. This was truly a memorable day for all our kids, and you made it happen! (full report, results, photos)

WSC sailors survive Dogfish Bay!

Eighteen WSC sailors made the journey north to Poulsbo, WA, April 5-6 to get their first taste of team racing at the Dogfish Bay Regatta. Despite cold and blustery conditions, they plunged right in (sometimes literally! read the full report, see the photos)

Parent Volunteers Needed

Don't forget to sign up for spring practice! We need two volunteers each day, one on the committee boat and one in the clubhouse.

Committee boat volunteers need to have an active boater's card. Club House volunteers help coordinate the kids, assist sailors who get cold, put on cocoa, and help the coaches if needed. They also need to be sure that all kids help de-rig the boats and clean up the club house before leaving, which should be at 6:30 pm. This has sometimes been a problem in the past, so let's all work together to make it work better this season (for a complete list of parent volunteer duties, click here).

It's great watching the kids sail. It's also fun to be involved in the program and get to know the teens, other parents and our great coaches. Please volunteer soon and often! Email Catherine Paglin  at cpaglin@teleport.com to reserve your dates.

Wanted: Gear & Clothing for the Kids!

If you have old foul weather gear lying around that you don't need anymore, please consider donating it to the WSC High School Sailing Program. Many of our kids lack proper sailing gear (i.e., spray tops, wetsuits, boots, gloves, polypro undies, etc.) and would surely appreciate your donation. Contact Rose at burrisro@comcast.net or drop off your old gear at our coat closet in the boat house at WSC. Thanks!

Work Hour Opportunity

Port Captain will offer 1 hour per week for a teen that signs up to keep the club house clean all week. Contact Rose if interested.

WSC Fall High School Regatta

WSC’s high school sailors wound up their 2007 fall season with an informal regatta at the club Oct. 27. In near perfect conditions (bright sunshine and 8-10 knot breeze), eight crews competed in eight tightly contested races. More . . .
