Treasurer Dean Runyan
| Dean began sailing in the Midget Ocean Racing Fleet in Los Angeles in the 60’s (Cal 24, I 24, Cal 40 etc.), helped start the sailing club at UCLA, and sailed intercollegiately. At Michigan as a grad student in the 70’s he instructed and coached in dinghies with an occasional vacation charter on the east or west coast. Various cruises included England and Ireland, a passage from France to Connecticut, and from San Francisco to Seattle. After moving to Hawaii for work, he focused on flying gliders and periodically chartering on the mainland. After moving to Oregon, he joined WSC in the 90’s with a Snipe (uncompetitive and now sold) and a Laser, which his son Hugh mainly sails at the club and in youth competitions. Dean has been actively in involved in other marine activities in Portland as well, having served on the Board and as President of the Oregon Maritime Museum. |
