Commodore Mike Rees

Mike started sailing when he was 9 years old when his father bought Flying Scot 1437 (which he still has at WSC). When he moved to Seattle in 1978, he raced with the Flying Scot fleet 100 and cruised the San Juan Islands. In the 1980s, he spent summers teaching sailing in Lightnings at Camp Sealth on Vashon Island. In the 1980s, he crewed on the big boats at the Bellingham Yacht Club, and later crewed on various boats in the Seattle area including the Cal 40 Viva where he met his wife Allison at Swiftsure 1995. He later moved to Portland to go to law school, and after joining WSC in 2001 purchased Thistle #3590 (Fling) and has been racing in just about every club race and Thistle regatta possible, including the extra-fun 2002 Nationals at Fern Ridge, since then.
